What I Want For Christmas

Writing this narrative reminds me of Ralphie from the movie A Christmas Story. He is so excited to tell his teacher about the Red Rider B-B Gun he so dearly wants for Christmas. Normally Ralphie would have trouble writing a narrative, but when it comes to the Red Rider B-B Gun he has no trouble filling a one-page narrative.

Like Ralphie, if given a captive audience, I will tell you why I'm so excited. I want to spend my pharmacy career educating and beig educated by the children I work so hard to help. My career goal is to run a pediatric ambulatory care clinic targeting high-risk children. During my experiences in pharmacy school I found adults more motivated by the illnesses of their children then by their own illnesses. by the age of eight, most children don't want to be different. Pharmacists play a crucial role in preventing exacerbations of otherwise controllable disease states.

As a resident I hope to gain the trust and respect of my patients and fellow staff. I will prove to be dedicated by working hard in all aspects of my job. I hope to gain independence, keen insight, and most of all the confidence to make professional judgments from my broadening knowledge base.

I believe a Pediatric Pharmacotherapy Residency is best suited for me because I am committed to pediatrics, and I will not clutter my mind with alternatives in general practice that may distract me from my goal. There are many exciting opportunities for pharmacists today; however, I believe the key to success is to stay focused on continuing my education, resisting the lure of an easy job, the sure-thing, or the deserving salary. All these things come with time. Doing the job you've always dreamed of, makes the satisfaction last.
