For the past year, all Allegra® (fexofenadine HCI) promotional efforts and patient samples have focused on the 60-mg tablet formulation. During this time, both Allegra 60-mg capsules and tablets were available through the retail outlet.
To minimize potential patient confusion between 60-mg tablets and capsules, Aventis Pharmaceuticals has decided to discontinue the distribution of 60-mg capsules.
So, it's important to stock up on 60-mg tablets for your bid patients. Allegra 60-mg tablets are now the only 60-mg formulation available.
Allegra 60-mg tablets are bioequivalent to 60-mg capsules -- the same strength and the same indications. Your bid patients can continue to enjoy the same powerful and nonsedating relief from their seasonal allergy symptoms.
Allegra 60-mg bid tablets are available in:
60-mg bid: HDPE bottles of 100 NDC 0088-1107-47
Allegra is also available in both 30-mg bid and 180-qd tablets:
30-mg bid: HDPE bottles of 100 NDC: 0088-1106-47
180-mg qd: HDPE bottles of 100 NDC: 0088-1109-47
The most commonly reported adverse events with Allegra 180 mg and placebo in seasonal allergic rhinitis patients 12 and older are headache (10.6% vs 7.5%), upper respiratory tract infection (3.2% vs 3.1%), and back pain (2.8% vs 1.4%).
The most commonly reported adverse events with Allegra 60 mg bid and placebo in seasonal allergic rhinitis patients 12 and older are viral infection (cold, flu) (2.5% vs 1.5%), nausea (1.6% vs 1.5%), and dysmenorrhea (1.5% vs 0.3%).
The most commonly reported adverse events with Allegra 30 mg and placebo in seasonal allergic rhinitis patients 6-11 years are headache (7.2% vs 6.6%), upper respiratory tract infection (4.3% vs 1.7%), coughing (3.8% vs 1.3%), and accidental injury (2.9% vs 1.3%).
